Lawrence Taylor, arguably the greatest defensive player in the history of the NFL, has been arrested and charged with third-degree rape and third-degree patronizing a prostitute in a New York hotel, at approximately 3:54 a.m. this morning. The alleged victim is a 16 year old girl, whose name has not yet been released.
If convicted, the total max prison sentence for both charges is five years. Taylor’s bail has been set at $75,000. He is expected back in court on June 10th (the same date as former UVA mens lacrosse player George Huguely, who was charged with the first-degree murder of Yeardley Love, this past Monday).
This is the sixth time Taylor has been arrested. In 1988, he was suspended by the league for violating its substance abuse policy.
